We give all of our customer’s comprehensive advice when it comes to caring for their newly upholstered furniture. Following our guidelines will help ensure a lengthy lifespan for your upholstery in Stirling. Here are some of our tips when it comes to looking after upholstery;

  • To give your upholstery equal wear, regularly rotate cushions
  • Avoid sharp objects being near upholstery
  • Avoid pets being near upholstery (where possible)
  • Do not machine wash cushion covers
  • Clean spillages as soon as possible
  • Avoid furniture being in direct sunlight
  • Plump cushions on a regular basis

Those are just some of the many tips on caring for upholstery that we give to all of our customers.

Furniture Placement

Here are some tips on furniture placement that you can apply in your home to get the most out of your upholstery;

Wooden Floors

If your furniture is being placed on wooden flooring, it is advised to use protective felt underneath the furniture in order to stop the floors from getting scratched.

Reclining Furniture

Reclining furniture should be placed away from other objects to ensure it doesn’t come into contact with any other furniture/walls etc. The mechanism should also never be forced open or closed, it may be stiff at first but will loosen over time.

New or Reupholstered Furniture

When unwrapping new or re-upholstered furniture, it may appear flat or creased. To fix this, simply take the palm of your hand and smooth over the upholstery in circular motions. This will allow the air to circulate in the cushions and they will fall into their natural shape.

Care of Leather Upholstery

Just like all other types of upholstery, leather upholstery also needs care and attention at times;

  • Always follow manufactures cleaning instructions and don’t use products that have not been recommended. If you are unsure, contact us and we’ll be happy to give you advice.
  • Keep your leather upholstery looking like new by regularly wiping it with a soft, damp cloth.
  • Vacuum to remove dust and dirt under the cushions.
  • Keep leather at least 50cm away from any sort of heater.
  • Blot any liquid spilt on leather immediately with a clean cloth until the upholstery is dry, avoid rubbing the leather as this can cause damage and discolouration.
  • Avoid sitting on pale leathers with denim or non-colour fast clothing, especially when wet, as dye can transfer from clothing to upholstery.

Prevent Damage to Your Upholstery in Stirling

No one wants damaged upholstery, especially when it’s new, here are some tips on how to prevent damage to your upholstery in Stirling;

  • Extreme temperatures can cause upholstery to crack, to prevent this, avoid placing furniture near heaters or air conditioning systems.
  • Avoid sitting on the arms of sofas and chairs as this can damage the frame

  • Never force a reclining mechanism open or closed
  • Avoid leaving newspapers and magazines on light coloured upholstery as the ink can be transferred
